Sady Doyle: The Democrats Who Support HR3 →
sadydoyle:
So, yeah: That “let’s redefine rape, and pass the Hyde Amendment into law, and also your insurance won’t cover abortion any more, and also, REDEFINE RAPE” act? The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Even Though There Basically Wasn’t Any Already, But At Least We Can Save $50K on Rape Survivors Act?”
Some Democrats sponsored it. THIS IS A VERY PRECISE SORT OF BUMMER, OF WHICH I...

What House Republicans are voting for today
mnpublius:
Today, House Republicans will vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In so doing, they will vote to:
Allow health insurance companies to refuse coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
Kick millions of young adults off their parents’ insurance.
Stop 32 million Americans from getting health insurance.
Increase the deficit by $230 billion.
Reduce Medicare’s solvency by 12...

One of the largest school districts in the country is ending its integration policy after the Tea Party took over its school board. The quote above is from the Washington Post article. I’m not an education expert, but I know that it is fairly well-established that poor children ARE more likely to struggle in school thanks to a host of factors related to poverty. Diane Ravitch’s...
I hope the White House understands that progressives have to be excited too....

Bartlet's Third State of the Union (2.13)
Shallick: This White House uses the First Amendment to protect flag burning, to protect pornography, to ban school prayer. Why, when the Second Amendment clearly says that the government will not infringe upon a citizens right to bear arms--
Toby: It doesn't say that.
Shallick: Toby--
Toby: In fact it doesn't say that at all. It only says that if you remove some words from it. It says "A well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the government shall not infringe." The words "regulated" and "militia" are in the first sentence. I don't think the framers were thinking of three guys and a Dodge Durango.
Shallick: You don't really know what the framers were thinking, do you?
Toby: No. But I do know that if you combine the populations of Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Australia, you'll get a population roughly the size of the United States. We had 32,000 gun deaths last year; they had 112. You think it's because Americans are more homicidal by nature? Or do you think it's because those guys have gun control laws?

MST3K for the New Year
sadydoyle:
Is not a regional tradition. It is a Sady Doyle, “I will personally never tire of Crow T. Robot in all his many incarnations and consider him a primary influence upon my feminism” — I WANT TO DECIDE WHO LIVES AND WHO DIES! — “and must always watch this shit in the dead of winter every year” tradition.
But it’s a good one.
Spread the word, yo!
I knew there was a reason I never...
