we are angry at the decision and the members of the police force who abused their power, but permanent wave is not anti-cop. we are anti-injustice. the cops helped us get rid of a crazy drunk man who tried to interrupt our speakers. there are good cops and bad cops, and we are angry about the bad ones, not the force as a whole.

we do not feel that it’s productive or effective to take a “fuck the police” attitude. those who protested should be aware of our demands list for the NYPD and ray kelly. we do not feel that swearing at and insulting the NYPD will help our cause.

that being said, we are inspired by and grateful to everyone who came out yesterday. thank you so much.

I was so happy to see so many people at this protest yesterday, and I was really proud of the organizers for putting it together in such a short time. I was also confused and disappointed to hear people chanting “fuck the police” over the voices of the speakers. The irony of men and women angry at the rapist cops shouting and making it impossible to hear the voices of rape survivors was not lost on the crowd.
